Information

Current Corona Safety Measures:

Please note that all passengers and visitors at Hamburg Airport are still recommended to wear a face mask.

Security at Hamburg Airport

Hamburg Airport has implemented numerous measures to enable passengers to travel safely. This includes distance markings, disinfectant dispensers, perspex panes at counters, additional cleaning, and testing facilities right at the airport.

ACI-Zertifikat
These comprehensive protection and hygiene measures have been certified by the Airport Health Accreditation Programme of the global industry association, the Airports Council International (ACI). All measures along the complete travel chain are assessed in the certification process. The Skytrax agency has also recognised Hamburg’s exemplary approach to Covid-19 with a 4-star award.

Protect yourself and others:

Hamburg Airport is doing everything possible to limit the spread of the coronavirus. We need your help to achieve this. It is vital that you comply with the recommended measures at the airport just as in any other public location:

Please note that all passengers and visitors at Hamburg Airport are still recommended to wear a mask.

Keep your distance:

Please maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 meters to other people. Markings on the floor will help you with this.

Hand hygiene:

Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly, and observe the rules of etiquette for coughing and sneezing. Disinfectant dispensers are available in all washroom facilities. There are additional disinfectant dispensers in the terminals and on the Passenger Pier.

If you have symptoms of illness:

Please do not travel if you feel unwell or already have symptoms. This is for your own safety and the safety of others.

Security checkpoint:

In order to verify your identity, you will need to briefly remove or lower your mask. Place any items carried in your outer clothing in the inspection box beforehand. Aviation security officers may, if necessary, conduct a manual security check by frisking you from the side or from behind. Please only bring a single item of cabin baggage for checking, and remove larger electronic devices (e.g. laptops, tablets, medical devices) and the 1-liter bag with liquids from your cabin baggage before inspection.  Find out about the current rules for aviation security checks at www.bundespolizei.de.

Safety on board the aircraft:

The airlines have also implemented numerous measures to reduce the intensity of contact between cabin crew and passengers.

  • To further reduce the risk of infection, gernan airlines require passengers to wear masks on board the aircraft on all flights. Please find out about your airline’s rules in advance, and bring the required mask with you.
  • On-board shopping and other services may be suspended.
  • Boarding and deboarding is done in small groups to make it easier to maintain a safe distance.

Should you have any questions about on-board measures, please contact the airline directly:
